Week 1 | Task 1.1

Describing your thought on media use


  My thought on using social media is to communicate with each other or to gain information through the internet. Media is an instrument on communication, like a newspaper or a radio, so social media would be a social instrument of communication. There are bunches of example of social media such as facebook, twitter, youtube, blogs and so on. It is a new marketing tool that allows you to get to know your client in a ways that previously not possible to communicate with them. Social media are the online platforms that bring people to participate in a conversation. Example, for individu its a method to connect and share anything with their friend and for business people, its a way to involve what people are saying about your product, services, brand, and so on. They can also get into a conversation like giving a new idea and to make a better business decisions. 



Nowadays, social media is like a lifeline to everyone. Without internet or social media they might lost connection with each other. If you can see people around you, most of them communicate with each other using a social media through their laptop, phones or tablet. In a split second, they are able to communicate with each other no matter wherever they are. Regardless, in this new era, it's an evolution of how we communicate such as replacing letter to email. People nowadays especially in business line, they use a lot of emails to send messages to their clients instead of using post letter. It's fast and convenient. Plus, with social media we can create a real-time online event, extending online interactions offline, or augmenting live events online. 


In conclusion, using social media especially in business is important as learning how to use email for business years ago. We need to embrace social media and the possibilities it brings and the challenges it presents in order to remain profitable and most importantly relevant in an ever-increasing social world. On the other hand, is a two-way street that gives you the ability to communicate too. It's a platform that makes it easier to share information with each other around the world. No matter how you define social media, one thing that is for sure, it will continue to evolve and its use will expand from time to time. In the process, it will become more integrated into both our business and personal lives.

Cross-Disciplinary 

Disciplinary is a term used to describe types of knowledge, expertise, skills, people, projects, communities, problems, challenges, studies, inquiry, approaches, and research areas that are strongly associated with academic areas of study (academic discipline) or areas of professional practice (profession). For example, the phenomenon of gravitation is strongly associated with academic discipline of physics, and so gravitation is considered to be part of the disciplinary knowledge of physics.

Cross-disciplinary refers to knowledge that explains aspects of one discipline in terms of another. Common examples of cross-disciplinary approaches are studies of the physics of music or the politics of literature.

Inter-Disciplinary

Interdisciplinary involves the combining of two or more academic disciplines into one activity (e.g. a research project). It is about creating something new by crossing boundaries, and thinking across them. It is related to an interdiscipline or an interdisciplinary field, which is an organizational unit that crosses traditional boundaries between academic disciplines or schools of thought, as new needs and professions have emerged.

Trans-Disciplinary

Describing a study which runs across traditional subject boundaries such as arts and science. Geography is often portrayed as a trans disciplinary subject since it has been concerned with the interplay between environment and humans, but many geographers argue that, with increasing specialization, the gulf between physical and human geographers has become very wide.

Qualitative Research

  • Qualitative research is something that is related to or something that is concerned with quality rather than numeric values. It is derived from the Middle English word producing a primary quality. It is also considered to be an important in terms of subjects, where it is divided into two different terms.
  • Business research into attitudes about an organization: market research into the attitudes, concerns, and behavior of an organization's members in relation to the organization
  • Research collecting descriptive information: research that gives detailed descriptions and explanations of the phenomenon studied rather than providing and analyzing statistics

Ethnographic Studies

Ethnography is the study of living cultures, and ethnographic research is the methodology and results of studying ethnography. Traditionally, ethnographers study nonindustrial cultures in the Americas, Africa, Asia and other continents, but today they are increasingly interested in modern postindustrial society.

The term has been adopted within qualitative market research to describe occasions where researchers spend time - hours, days or weeks - observing and/or interacting with participants in areas of their everyday lives. This contrasts with interview-based research in which interaction with respondents is limited to a conventional interview or group discussion format, is more limited in time, and often takes place outside the participant's own environment.
